Formation of Bone Models using 3D Printing Technology
For the
first time in the region, the Faculty of Engineering at Qassim University
has succeeded to the formation of bone models using 3D printing technology for use in
a number of surgeries for broken parts in some patients at Buraydah Central
Hospital. Through its
academic staff, the College has been able to implement several bone models,
through the recently used 3D printing technology that being used in the medical
fields, and its use for creating patients' organs models, to create bridges of appropriate
sizes for patients before the start of operations, and this helps in reducing
the time of operation and increase its accuracy, quality and success rate.
The College
of Engineering has been able to implement a model for a fracture in the skull
of the head of a patient after a traffic accident using 3D printing technology
in the college's 3D printing laboratory. In addition, making a second 3D model for
another patient with broken cheeks at the Central Hospital in Buraydah.
